  • Windows is unable to install drivers for the USB Bluetooth adapter

The USB Bluetooth adapter included with your Myo is a standard plug and play USB device that your Windows computer should automatically detect and communicate with. In some cases, Windows is unable to successfully install the drivers for the adapter and may be accompanied by the error "The system cannot find the file specified".
The following steps will outline 3 ways to install the correct drivers for the Bluegiga USB Bluetooth adapter.

    Automatic installation

The drivers for the USB Bluetooth adapter are prompted for install during the Myo Connect installation. If you do not see the prompt and you are installing Myo Connect for the first time, please ensure any firewall or antivirus applications are disabled and not interfering or blocking the installation. You may enable the firewall or antivirus application again once Myo Connect has been installed.

    Manual installation: Option 1

You can manually install the drivers for the USB Bluetooth adapter using the driver files packaged with the Myo Connect installation.

    1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the drivers folder in the Myo Connect installation directory. By default the location is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Thalmic Labs\Myo Connect\drivers".

    2. Right click on the dfu.ini file and select Install. Click Yes on the security dialog to continue.

In a few moments, a dialog will appear stating the operation completed successfully. Click Ok.

    3. Right click on the usbserial.inf file and select Install. Click Yes on the security dialog to continue.

In a few moments, a dialog will appear stating the operation completed successfully. Click Ok.

    4. In order to apply these new changes, the computer must restart. If you received the system dialog below, click Restart Now. If not, restart your system from the Start Menu.

    Manual Installation: Option 2

    1. Open Device Manager by searching for "device manager" in the start menu or start screen.

    2. Locate the USB device representing the Myo in the Device Manager list (typically under Other Devices section).
Note: The name of the device and category as shown below may vary.

    3. Right click on the device and click Update Driver Software...

    4. In the Update Driver Software wizard click Browse my computer for driver software.

    5. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

    6. Select Show All Devices and click Next.

    7. Click on the Have Disk... button.

    8. Click Browse and navigate to the drivers folder in the Myo Connect installation directory. By default the location is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Thalmic Labs\Myo Connect\drivers". Click the dfu.inf file, click Open and then OK.

    9. Select Bluegiga from the Manufacturer list on the left and Bluegiga Bluetooth Low Energy from the Model list on the right. Click Next to apply the drivers.

    10. You may receive an Update Driver Warning dialog stating that manually applying a driver may cause the device to stop functioning. Click Yes to continue.

    11. The wizard will apply the new drivers and report success. Click Close to complete the wizard. Windows Device Manager should correctly show the Bluetooth adapter as Bluegiga Bluetooth Low Energy (COM#) under the Ports (COM & LPT) section.

The USB Bluetooth adapter should now be available for use with Myo Connect. If the driver application failed or the Bluetooth adapter is still unable to communicate with your computer, connect it to another USB port and try it on another computer.

If the issue persists, please contact support@thalmic.com and include the setupapi.dev.log file located in C:\WINDOWS\inf folder.
