  • Controlling media on your computer with Myo

There are two different ways to control media with your Myo armband:

    • Individual application control
    • Global media control

    Individual Application Control

Here we use a Myo script for each media application we want to control. There are Netflix, Spotify, iTunes and VLC Media Player scripts preloaded in the Application Manager as soon as you install Myo Connect. You can download additional Myo scripts for other applications on the Myo Market or make your own using the Keyboard Mapper in Myo Connect.

Each Myo script must be active in the Application Manager in Myo Connect and the application you want to control must be the active window, meaning it cannot be in the background or you cannot be using another application.

These scripts function as if you were using the Play/Pause, Next, Previous and volume shortcut keys while in the application you are using. These shortcuts can vary depending on the application.

Best used when: Only using one application at a time such as watching a video

    Here's how:

      1. Download and install the Myo script for the application you want to control. If it's already installed, ensure it is listed and active in the Application Manager in Myo Connect.

      2. Open the application you want to control. Remember, this application must remain the active foreground window in order to control it with your Myo.

      3. Most scripts use the Double Tap gesture to unlock controls. Perform Double Tap and then the corresponding gesture for the command you want to use.  If you're unsure about what gesture controls which application function, check out the scripts page on the Myo Market for instructions. The default control scheme for the preloaded Netflix, Spotify, iTunes and VLC are:

    Play/Pause

    Volume
    Rotate to adjust

    Next
    Hold to seek

    Previous
    Hold to seek

    Global Media Control

Here we use a single Myo script to globally give commands to any media application open.

This works as if you are using your keyboards designated media control keys regardless of what application you are currently using.

Best used when: Multitasking - You don't need to switch to the media application to control it. For example, you can control your music playback while browsing the Internet without ever leaving your browser.

    Here's how:

      1. Download and install a Myo script that controls media globally like Global Media Keys on the Myo Market. If it's already installed, ensure it is listed and active in the Application Manager in Myo Connect. Global scripts must be at the bottom of the Application Manager list at all times. The global script will always take priority over any scripts below it.

      2. Open the application you want to control.

      3. Most scripts use the Double Tap gesture to unlock controls. Perform Double Tap and then the corresponding gesture for the command you want to use.  If you're unsure about what gesture controls which application function, check out the scripts page on the Myo Market for instructions. The default control scheme for Global Media Keys is:

    Play/Pause

    Volume
    Rotate to adjust

    Previous

    Next
